Stakeholders from diverse sectors, such as government, industry, the private sector, recyclers, academia, and civil society organizations, actively participated in this comprehensive analysis, spearheaded by a team of experts.
The official presentation of this report took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ecuador in October 2023.
The Ecuador's National Action Roadmap evaluates the country's plastic ecosystem, focusing on plastic waste generation, management, and environmental leakage. It also projects future scenarios up to 2040: a business-as-usual scenario, which predicts continued growth in plastic pollution, and a system-change scenario, which envisions comprehensive and ambitious interventions across the entire plastics value chain. The latter scenario leverages synergies between upstream and downstream measures to enhance the circularity of Ecuador's plastic system, significantly reducing plastic pollution.
Developed with input from diverse stakeholders including government, industry, recyclers, academia, and civil society, the report offers actionable recommendations. Led by a team of experts, it was officially presented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in October 2023 and was on June 10, 2024.
