About the Inclusive Plastic Action Programme
The informal economy plays a vital role in tackling plastic pollution in both emerging and established economies. Often led by marginalized groups, informal waste collectors lack formal recognition yet drive essential impact. They are responsible for collecting over 60% of the world’s plastic waste, making them key players in the fight against plastic pollution.
Through our Inclusive Plastic Action Programme, we support non-profit organisations and social enterprises working on initiatives that build skills, improve livelihoods, and support inclusive solutions tailored to the informal economy.

Bangladesh
A non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized women waste workers in Joypurhat, Bangladesh. The project formalizes their work, enhances skills, and builds recognition in plastic waste management.
Action For Development Organization (AFD)
Cambodia
An NGO supporting community forestry, fisheries, eco-tourism, and women producer groups. AFD empowers vulnerable communities to preserve biodiversity, promote equitable resource use, and build climate resilience for better livelihoods.
PatiHoub
Lao PDR
A women-led social enterprise in Lao PDR, supported by the Stockholm Environment Institute. The project aims to boost plastic recycling by engaging waste collectors, communities, and women recyclers, while sharing lessons for regional impact.

A community-driven organization conserving the marine environment through beach clean-ups and recycling. The initiative transforms trash into cash for small-scale fishmongers, helping them strengthen cooperatives, improve livelihoods, and reduce vulnerability to transactional exploitation.
