Indonesia has set a target to reduce plastic waste by 70% by 2025. To strengthen Indonesia’s commitment to reducing marine debris, a number of action plans and regulations on plastic pollution and waste reduction have been established including 1) The National Action Plan on Marine Debris 2018-2018, regulated by Presidential Regulation No 83/2018 on Marine Debris Waste Management, 2) The responsibility of producers for waste reduction, Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No 75/2019 on Roadmap of Waste Reduction by Producers, and 3) Plastic waste management in the tourism sector, Regulation No 5/2020, regulated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
This Roadmap is to support the acceleration, transition, and strengthening implementation of the Producer Responsibility Regulation (Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No 75/2019). Transitional policies are needed to maximize the acceptance of alternatives to single-use plastics, increase awareness of environmental impacts and the importance of such actions among stakeholders, and to promote SUP alternatives in the market.
